LED Drivers - Buck Converters vs Constant Current Source

Hello...

I am new to LED Drivers....Trying to make a decision as to whether to go with Buck Converter or Constant Current Drivers.....I do not understand the fundamental difference between the two....

It appears to me that the compliance on the input voltage side of the Buck is much narrower than the CC drivers....It also appears that the Constant Current Drivers are linear and not switching as they seem to be concerned about power dissipation more so than the Buck.....Are these statements correct?  and is this the fundamental difference between why one would choose one over the other?

Thank you

Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Basically, you can search for some fundamental knowledge for LED drivers. LED driver is designed to deliver constant current for the LED load. For the switching structure, there is no much difference.

You can share the project requirement and we can help you provide some good choices.
