LV2862: inductor limits

Part Number: LV2862

Team,

My customer has some questions on the Webench design they created with LV2862 based on 15-28 Vdc Vin, and 12 Vdc out @ 0.075 amps:

I am curious about the inductor limits for this low power design. Webench recommends a maximum DCR of 100m ohms for an inductor between roughly 200 to 500 uH. That seems like it would be a rather large inductor for a low power design. Webench just shows custom inductor. Was the DCR supposed to be under a 1000m ohms? When resetting the limit to 1000ma I can choose from a plethora of inductors.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Viktorija

  • Hello

It sounds like Webench is being a little overzealous with the inductor selection; that can happen occasionally.

From the data sheet we see efficiency curves for a 12Vout design for both 770kHz and 2.1MHz.

    The 770kHz design uses a 22uH; the 2.1MHz design uses 10uH.

Those values sound more reasonable to me.

You should be able to find inductors in that range with 100mOhm or less DCR.

The TI EVM for this device would also be a good starting point for the customers design.

    Thanks
