TPS40021: TPS40021

Part Number: TPS40021

i need to replace the TPS40021 (not recommended.....) in some old cards.

can i use exactly (without any change), the TPS40021-EP?

is there a document about it?

thank you---yuval

  • Hello yuval,

The difference between TPS40021 and TPS40021-EP, is the extended recommended operating temperature from -55 to 125 C.

So you can use the TPS40021-EP in a TPS40021-EP design.

TPS40021 is a pretty old part, if you want to move to smaller and easier designs to implement. I can help you with this.

    Let me know.

    Thanks a lot!

    Regards,

    Dorian

  • Thank you for the answer,

we use this part at 567 different cards.

each card that make a layout correction need to replace the solution because of "not recommended...".

    (we use also a lots of newer TI controllers - 40303,4 , 40077, .....)

to be on the safe side, do you have a document that it is replacement 1:1 to the old TPS40021?

and the temperature range is the only the different?

i didn't find any comparison doc. or any doc. about it.

    thanks!

    yuval

  • Hello yuval,

We don't have this 1:1 replacement document in order to change from TPS40021 to TPS40021-EP.

As you can see in TPS40021 datasheet, page 31 (Package option addendum), TPS40021-EP is another qualified version of TPS40021.

Enhanced Product is higher cost because temperature range specification is enlarged for specific applications.

You can replace TPS40021 by TPS40021-EP.

Let me know if any other questions!

  • HI!

for continue with the TPS40021-EP, I want to ask:

    1. what is the longevity (how many years) of TPS40021 "NOT RECOMMENDED......"?

    2.  what is the longevity (how many years) of TPS40021-EP "ACTIVE"?

    Yuval

  • Hello yuval,

Longevity can be calculated here using the part number you will use.

For instance in your case: TPS40021MPWPEP or TPS40020PWP

Lifetime is covered by the qualification called HTOL and is typically 1000 hrs  at Tjmax.

Let me know if you have other questions.

    Thanks,

    Dorian

  • thank you for the answer,

The question is referring to Longevity in terms of Product Lifecycle.

We are aware that according to the web site, item is active, but it’s not recommended for new designs.

Please share, according to TI view, for how long time this item will remain active? (TPS40021-EP)

    yuval

  • Hello yuval,

I need to ask the digital marketing team how is it defined. I will let you know tomorrow.

I recommend you have a look at the newest part of the portfolio which is less likely to have this issue.

Let me know if I can help.

    Thanks a lot!

    Regards,
    Dorian

  • Hello yuval,

This relates to the fact that TPS40021 is using an older process which will no longer supported by our FABs.

I need to double-check what will happen for TPS40021-EP.

As mentioned before, I recommend you to go for an newer part from our portfolio.

I will let you know once I know more about how long will TPS40021-EP be active.

    Thanks a lot!

    Regards,

    Dorian

  • Hello yuval,

TPS40021-EP will not go in NRND because this is meant to be used in very look-time-buy applications such Aerospace that's also why you have a specification for temperature going from -55 up to 125C. I would not be worried here.

Let me know if you still want to have a look at the new options in our portfolio, which can provide better efficiency and overall solution size.

    Thanks a lot!

  • Hello yuval,

I haven't heard back from you.

Do you have any further questions here ?

    Let me know.

    Thanks a lot!

    Dorian

  • hi!

to be in the "safe side" and insert the component in our company instead of the old TPS40021 "not recommended...",

do you know how many years the EP will be "active" in production?

let say, is it going to be "active" in the next 5 or 7 years?

(we have some hundred projects with the "not recommended .." version, and we afraid that the EP is going to be "not recommended.." soon too.

it is very important to us to know this information.

    Thanks a lot!!

    Yuval

  • Hello yuval,

Regarding how many years the EP will be active, there has been no dates announced by TI for this.

TPS40021-EP should stay active in the next 5 to 7 years.

As per TI procedure, TI typically offers a LTB so that the customer can purchase as many parts as they need for their current production.

    Thank you!

    Dorian
