TPS53681: VOUT_MODE and NVM questions

Part Number: TPS53681

Hi expert,

Q1:

In DS, it claims that VOUT_MODE is read-only, then why and how I can change 5mV step mode to 10mV step mode in GUI?

Which register is it changing?

Q2:

If a register is claimed NVM available, in which working state can NVM be stored? When VR is working to regulate, will "store to NVM" work?

What is the striction here?

  • Hello,

1- The VID table is programmable through the VR MODE bits in MFR_SPECIFIC_13[7:5]. This field is used to determine the value of VOUT_MODE. But VOUT_MODE itself is read-only.

2- Generally it is OK to issue an NVM store during regulation. It is OK to issue an NVM store itself during regulation, as long as you can guarantee the 3.3V supply will not be lost for the ~100ms storage time after you do so. For PMBus programming... most commands are OK to change during regulation as well but changing some fields (like the VR MODE) may cause other things to change, so generally if possible I would recommend to do the programming with the VRs disabled. Example, changing the VID table, causes the output voltage to change if during power conversion.
