Hello,
We have been testing out a bq24610 design and finding the devices are being damaged approximately 30 minutes after power up. The boards tested OK in production, but during assembly and calibration of the system the boards started to fail.
After removing the IC we found SRN and SRP has low impedance to ground (21 ohms versus 245K for correlation unit).
Since the SRN & SRP are connected to the output, it didn't' seem like ringing on the phase node would cause this damage.
Have you seen this failure mode before? Thank you, Keith
Hi Keith,
Is the IC being damaged, or just the series sense resistor between SRP and SRN, or specifically any of the external components comprising the switching circuit? The only relevance that the 30 minutes after operation, is that there is an inbuilt 30 minute precharge timer (VFB<VLOWV and charging in precharge), however in that case the charger would turn off and indicate a fault condition. I have not seen this before.
Hi Kedar,
We reviewed the layout and found some optimizations we could make.
In particular we need to have a split analog & power ground planes (like the user's guide layout) & relocate the input capacitors right at the high-side mosfet.
We'll let you know if we need more help. Thank you, Keith
