BQ76952: REG2 to Supply CAN Transceiver

Hello,

The BQ76952 datasheet shows an example application where the REG2 LDO output is supplying 5V power to a CAN transceiver. However, the LDO output current limit of 45mA is too low to meet the supply current requirements of TI's TCAN1042 or TCAN1051 transceivers (80mA max in dominant mode, up to 180mA with the bus faulted).

Is there a recommended CAN transceiver which will not overload the REG2 output of the BQ76952?

Hi Jessica,

You're right - the REG2 LDO cannot supply enough current for these devices. I don't have a recommendation for that can work with the 45 mA limit. There is a reference design in development that uses the LM5163 (supplied by the battery stack voltage) to supply the TCAN1044.

Thanks for the quick reply Matt. That is too bad the output current is insufficient to drive a CAN transceiver. I will take a look at the LM5163 regulator.
