TPS51200: Questions about Overshoot

Part Number: TPS51200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Hello team,

I found quite a few threads about overshoot for TPS51200. But as my customer wants to learn more, please let me clarify.

1. Is 0.47uF REFOUT cap limitation is defined for the stability? Do you think REFOUT cap > 0.47 uF is acceptable as far as the stability is fine?

2. My customer wants to simulated the TPS51200 overshoot with TINA-TI. Is it possible?

3. My customer guesses that the overshoot can be effected by the power up sequence because REFOUT is controlled by UVLO of VIN. Could you please comment?

Regards,

Itoh

  • Hi Itoh-san,

It's ok to use REFOUT capacitor > than 0.47uF, we have seen customer using 100uF with no issue.

The overshoot is depending on some of the parasitic parameters, so it may not be seen in simulation. With large REFOUT capacitance this overshoot can be reduced.

The overshoot is caused by high slew rate during start up, so it's not related to UVLO of VIN.
