TPS2663: Discharge Function

Part Number: TPS2663

Dear TI Team,

I would like to know if TPS26631 has a Discharge function.

Our customer is considering TPS26631.
They are asking if the output terminal of TPS26631 has a discharge function (a function that the output voltage immediately drops to the GND level when the internal FET is turned on by OVP etc.).

However, when I looked at the internal block diagram in the TPS26631 data sheet, I could not confirm the circuit for discharge.
In addition, the following materials clearly state that an external circuit as shown in the figure below is required when the discharge function is required.

Is it the same for TPS26631?

Best Regards,
Y.Ottey

  • Hi Ottey,

TPS26631 does not has output Discharge function.

Can you share me the reason why it is needed ? Either FLT/ or PGOOD signal to enable the external circuit like the one shown above can be considered to realize the function.

    Best Regards, Rakesh

  • Hi Rakesh

    Thank you for your reply.

We ask our customers why they need Discharge Funtion.

"Either FLT / or PGOOD signal to enable the external circuit like the one shown above can be considered to realize the function."

I have a question about what you were doing above.
Since the FLT and PGOOD pins of the TPS26631 are in the Low state when the device is in the Disnable state, the positions of the external FETs and external resistors do not change, and it is thought that the FLT or PGOOD pins of the TPS26631 can be used instead of the BFET pins in the figure below.
    Is the above recognition correct?

Also, I would be grateful if you could tell me if there is a reference circuit for the TPS26631 with a discharge circuit as shown above.

    Regards,

    Y.Ottey

  • Hi Ottey,

unfortunately, we don't have reference circuit.

Use FLT output to drive external P-FET. when part is disabled, FLT goes low and enables the PFET to discharge the load.
