BQ34Z100-G1: Detection of missing connection to the battery (lead-acid)

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1

How can we detect if the attached battery (lead-acid, 2x12=24V, 7.2AH) is disconnected? (Our (medical) equipment  is normally running on external power, and the battery is used as an emergency backup. We want to detect if the connection to the battery terminals are lost - in this case the equipment have to warn the user that no backup-battery is available)

Best regards/ Lars Halling

  • Hello Lars,

The gauge has no direct alert for detecting if connections are good if there's no current flowing. The best way I could think of is to read the voltage on the PACK pin from the gauge and compare it to your main power lines from the wall, if they become offset then the connection is lost.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
