LP8863-Q1: All LED strings are shorted - do we expect any fault to be reported?

Hi team,

From section 8.3.8.1 on datasheet, when all LED strings are shorted, I suppose there is no short fault reported - will there be any other fault reported? Or no fault report at all in this case?

Is there a way to detect all LED strings shorted, by device or via external means? Thanks!

Can you explain more details here? Are all the LED strings shorted at the same time? Is the short number of LEDs of each string the same?

Hi Charles,

Sorry did not provide details. The number of LEDs are the same for all the strings. The test is to short all LEDs in all strings.

From datasheet, at least one LED output need to be inside the normal operation window - so I suppose shorting all LED strings will not be reported as short? But will this trigger any fault at all? Is there a way to detect all LED strings shorted, by device or via external means?

Hi PY,

You are right. If all the led string are shorted at the same time, it can't be reported out. If they are not shorted at the same time, it can be detected.
