TPS61178: Boost 3.6V to 24V at 1.5A?

Hi team,

A customer is looking for a boost converter to convert Li-Po voltage (3.6-4.2V) up to optimally 24V (min 18V) at optimally 1.5A (min 1A) for max 1 min at a time with very low repetition rate. Would this work with TPS611781? Telling from the efficiency diagrams in the datasheet it looks efficiency would be extremely low. But I can't find a better fitting boost either. Do you have an alternative solution?

Hi Franz:

The TPS61178 can't supply 24V..

You can check the TPS55340, but I'm not sure if it can handle 1.5A.

Hi Minqiu,

That's right but I does support 20V, which is still within their limits (min 18V). What would efficiency look like when boosting 3.3V to 18 or 20V at 1A?

It means 18V/1A is acceptable for customer? If you can confirm the condition, I'm willing to do a test on EVM

Hi Minqiu,

Yes, these are the absolute minimum requirements. So if 20V/1A or 20V/1,5A works it would be even better. Thank you for testing efficiency on the EVM.
