BQ76952: Using CFETOFF and DFETOFF with DCHG and DDSG

Part Number: BQ76952

Hi,

I am trying to use low-side FET drive with BQ76952, Is it possible to control DCHG and DDSG with CFETOFF and DFETOFF?

Another thing is, how should I connect LD pin while using Low side FET drive, to PACK+ or PACK-? Is LD pin responsible for Charger detection?

Regards,

Anurag

  • Hi Anurag,

Yes, you can use CFETOFF and DFETOFF with the DCHG and DDSG outputs.  Be sure to configure both the input and output pins.

In the BQ76952 there is a charger detection threshold on the PACK pin as noted in the technical reference manual section 13.4.2.6.  But the term is also used for wake up which is a threshold (VWAKEONLD) on the LD pin.  The alternative wake up is to pull down TS2.  With standard series FET configuration connecting a charger will pull up LD.  With low side FETs you can manipulate LD or TS2 to wake the part. You would need some circuit to do either.

  • Hey,

    Thanks for the reply.

I am using Low-side FET protection.

Is there a possibility, where if I connect LD pin PACK+ it might stop AFE from entering into SHUTDOWN mode, because it will be pulled up above threshold.

    Regards,

    Anurag

  • Hi Anurag,

Correct, holding LD high will prevent shutdown, but if commanded to shut down it will enter a soft shutdown mode.  See the last paragraph of section 7.5 of the technical reference manual.
