TIDM-ULTRASONIC-FLOW-TDC: change the main OSC frequency with "ASEMB-16.000MHZ-LY-T

Part Number: TIDM-ULTRASONIC-FLOW-TDC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC1000, TDC7200

Hi Team,

Good day, just received inquiry from customer regarding TIDM-ULTRASONIC-FLOW-TDC. For me to not miss any information, Ill copy the query below.

"According to information provided in the datasheet, the TDC1000-7200 can operate with 16MHz OSC, I want to change the main OSC frequency with "ASEMB-16.000MHZ-LY-T" but I don't know what should be changed(board/code/GUI) except the OSC replacement?"

Thank you and looking forward for your kind response.

Regards,

Maynard

  • Hi,

In this TI design, MSP430 used to connect with TDC1000 and capture some data via SPI, you means you would like to change the crystal to 16MHz for MCU HFXT? Is it X1? right?

I think this crystal is just a clock source for MCU, this value of frequency do not influence the function and performance。

By the way, we recommand you can try to evaluate our new TI design for ultrasonic flow meter : https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDM-1019

    Thanks!

  • Hi Johnson,

Thank you for your response. The customer want to change  the OSC which is connected to TDC1000 and TDC7200 in order to increase the accuracy. The schematic is attached.

  • Hi Maynard,

I am not familiar with the circuit of TDC1000, E2E will help you find relevant experts。

    Thanks!

  • Hello,

Here is the information on the Clock architecture of the TDC1000. The TDC1000 works with the principle of frequency divider. The precision of the clock chosen also is limited to the frequency divider which can be programmed via TX_FREQ_DIV.

Here is the block diagram of the Clock architecture.

The Clock change does improve the accuracy and depending on the need for the accuracy the frequency accuracy can be calculated based on the equation in the datasheet. The change will involve change to the schematics, layout and also the firmware.

Let me know if this helps.
