BQ25713: BQ25713 recharge threshold configuration

Part Number: BQ25713

Hi

Could you please answer how to configure BQ25713 recharge threshold ?

  • Hi Pei,

There is no recharge threshold on this charger. This action must be owned by the host to re-enable charge after it is disabled, and similarly host must take action to disable charge when it is determined battery is fully charged. When charging, because this device does not terminate charge automatically, the charger will remain at the CV voltage indefinitely.

  • Hi

    1. What will happen to this IC when it is fully charged?
    2. If I suddenly overloaded while charging, causing the battery to discharge to VSYS, do I need to reset the charging current, or after the overload is over, the IC will recharge and do not need to reset?
    3. When the battery voltage drops slowly after the IC is fully charged, is there a suggestion to recharge it after a few% drop?

  • Hi Pei,

    1.    The gauge or host should monitor current and when termination is hit, charger can be disabled.
    2.    This part has NVDC architecture and can supplement SYS Load. Depending on the sensed battery voltage, it will charge in CC or CV phase
    3.    Host needs to handle this.

  • Hi Manishankar,

When the voltage reaches the set charging voltage. If the charging current is not turned off.
I want to ask the following questions:
    1. I want to know whether the BATTRV pin will turn off the MOSFET? After all, try not to keep the battery voltage at the full charge point.
    2. Can the BATDRV pin be controlled by firmware? Or is it always automatically controlled by BQ25713? After all, customers worry that if it is controlled by firmware, it may be too late.

    3. What is the control logic of the BATDRV pin?

  • Hi Manishankar,

What's you suggestion on below question? thank you!

  • Hi Pei,

If you don't have host control to terminate, the charger will charge in CV indefinitely with low charge current, as in CV charge current tapers off while output voltage is regulated. If adapter is connected, the point is to keep the battery voltage topped off at full charge. There is a BATFETOFF_HIz bit to control BATFET during HIz mode. The BATFET logic is complex and must respond fast so there are lots of control logic, and not much configurability is given to the host for this reason. Can you describe a specific test condition?

  • I apologize for the delay as we were on Thanksgiving break since last week so responses were delayed.

  • Hi Manishankar,

We want to know the action or control method of that pin (BATFET).
Assume I set the charging voltage up to 12.45V. When the battery is charged to this voltage, will the pin be activated?

If it turns off and the battery stops charging. If the charge input is unplugged or the output is suddenly overloaded, what will happen to the pin at this time?
We are worried about whether it may cause unknown actions of charge IC.
So I want to know whether the pin is controlled by charge IC alone, or controlled by HOST?

Finally, where can I obtain the IC verification report of BQ25713?

    BR,

    Nicholas

  • Hi Nicholas,

BATDRV is controlled by IC alone, apart from the case where you are in HIz mode and host has option to turn it off in this mode. EC table and waveforms during specific operating conditions are provided in the datasheet.
