TPS2561A: TPS2561A

Part Number: TPS2561A

Hi,

My customer would like to know if there is a single channel version of the TPS2561A?

They really like two features of the 2561A that make it attractive for their application. First the device has a soft current limit (i.e. continues providing power at Ilim instead of shutting down). Second, the output current limit is adjustable in the 250ma to >1.5A range. However, the device has two independent channels and our application only needs a single one.

Thanks,
Soumya

  • Hi Soumya,

How much current does customer draw?

What the current limit does customer set?

  • Hi Ziv,

The customer liked this feature in the TPS2561A that the  output current limit is adjustable in the 250ma to >1.5A range. So they just want to know if there is a single channel version of this device?

  • Hi Soumya,

The reason I ask about the current condition customer requests is because that I want to have a test of TPS2561A.

As far as I know, the power switch will thermal cycle as in current limit condition with high load.

So I need the load condition customer used.

  • Attached is a high level power diagram for the application. They will be connecting to a host that is either SDP or CDP, and our System and battery charging need to take priority over the external port. The 2561A solution would be for the external port charging. The idea being that System and Battery are known loads, and the external port current limit could be adjusted based on the host capabilities and the rest of the system needs.

If you're saying the 2561 could hit the thermal limits when running at the current limit setting, then yes, that will be critical to their application. They haven’t fully defined the max expected output current, but since the most we expect from our host will be 1.5A, the external port max current will be less than that. They will  investigate the thermal impact.

I am going to share this link with the customer so that you can interact with Travis directly as I will be out on Thanksgiving break.

  • Hi Soumya,

    I have a test of TPS2561A.

With 0.5A current limit, it will not thermal shut down.

With much higher, it will be sure thermal cycle. But I have not confirmed the exact current value as thermal cycle.

For other power switch, they are with similar current limit behavior.

So need you confirmation of the exact current limit value to see whether meet your requirement.
