HI

I have following question to be resolved.

1.I am designing a 3S1P battery pack PCB using BQ40z50r1 fuel Gauge IC. Whether it is fine to use only BQ40z50r1 IC on my design or we need to use any secondary protection IC (like BQ294700) on the design.

Without using any secondary protection IC ,we can design the battery pack PCB and use it on the cell connection.

2.I have designed a 4S1P smart battery Pack PCB using the BQ40z50r1 IC. When connecting the battery pack and reading the registers through BQ studio software the registers XCHG,XDSG and Rest mode bit is set on the Battery Register .Kindly do the needful to charge the battery pack,

    Hello Anandan,

    This means your firmware sees one of the conditions described in the TRM, section 4.12 Charge Disable and Discharge Disable

    Make sure you aren't triggering any of these events.

    Hello Anandan,

    It depends on the specifications for your system if you need a secondary protector as well. Some industries require more protections than others.

    Hi wyatt,

    with Reference to the TRM section,I have found none of the bits has been set on the gas gauge IC,Also Battery REST mode bit is set on the IC.

    The following steps has been done on the battery pack

    1.The battery chemistry of the cell has been updated 

    2.Then the gas gauge file has been uploaded on the IC and programmed.

    then tried to charge ,it is not charged.
