TPS54020: Need Css pin FMEA

Hi Experts!

Can someone provide a failure mode analysis for the Css pin?

My customer would like to know the failure effects if the Css pin is in the following conditions:

1) Open circuit

2) Shorted to GND

3) Shorted to VIN

    Hi Jim,

    Here is what we can expect to happen in those 3 scenarios:

    1) Open circuit: No damage. SS time is very short, device will charge output up as fast as possible. The SS time would be limited by either the device's current limit or the device's loop response.

    2) Shorted to GND: No damage. Because the SS pin is one of the inputs to the error amplifier, if it is held to ground the device will switch but the output voltage will stay near 0-V.

    3) Shorted to VIN: SS pin damaged.
