BQ25898DEVM-730: Logging charge cycle with Agilent current meter affect Fast Charge Period

Part Number: BQ25898DEVM-730

Hello,

We are testing the BQ25898DEVM with a 1500 mAh li-ion battery.  We would like to log the charge cycle and monitor the charge current using an Agilent 34410A multimeter.  We have meter configured for DC current and have it inline with the battery's low-side.

We have the Fast Charge Current Limit set to 1.088 mA.

We have performed a full-cycle charge test two times with the battery completely discharged to full.  It appears that when the meter is inline with battery, the Fast Charge period is affected and greatly shortened.  In this plot, the charge rate only maintains 1.088mA for 0.06 hours or 3.6 minutes.

When we attempt this test again from completely discharged, without the Agilent meter inline, the charger remains at the high charge rate much longer.  So far in the test I am actively running now, According to the ADC function of the charger, it has maintained the high charge rate for 35 minutes now and not begun to reduce.

Is there a reason to explain why the charger may be reducing the charge rate when the Agilent meter is inline with the battery?  Is there a recommended method/equipment that may be used to log and capture this test properly without affecting the charger operation?

Thank you,

Chris
