UCD90160: can not find ucd90160

Part Number: UCD90160

Hi,

I tried to program ucd90160 on my board using  Fusion Digital Power Designer, but only saw red 'No Devices Found!' message.

There is one ucd90160 on board and its address is 117d by two 118k Ohm resisters. I checked the resister value.

I checked PMBUS_CLK, PMBUS_DATA signals on pin 15 and 16 and the signals seemed good.

I searched and found 'recover UCD90160 from ROM mode.pdf'

I followed the pdf document.

Power on board -> Launch UCD9xxx Device GUI -> Click 'Scan Device in ROM Mode' -> then checked Last ROM Found(same information as pdf) --> Click 'Calculate' --> Click 'Recreate' --> Click 'Command ROM to execute its program' --> Power off board.

However still 'No Devices Found!'

I relaunch UCD9xxx Device GUI and clicked 'Scan Device in ROM Mode', but this time faced red 'No ROM detected'.

The only difference from PDF file is that I did not see 0x003B7D24, but different value I don't remember.

I have no idea how to solve this.

I tested board right after assembling done. The ucd90160 is new one.

  • Hello

UCD90160A and UCD90160 are two different devices. Do you use UCD90160A or UCD90160?

If it is UCD90160 and you recreated the checksum without seeing 003B7D24, the device will be bricked.

If the UCD90160 is a brand new device, It shall not be under ROM mode. It seems that some changes have been made on the device either before or after assembling.

I would suggest to replace the IC on the board and re-do the programming.

Please be noted that the USB-TO-GPIO dongle has built-in pull up for the I2C SCL/SDA. If there are pull-up on your board, you may change the USB-TO-GPIO dongle setting to open drain.

Please follow below training video to make changes.
