BQ77915: CFET never turns ON

Part Number: BQ77915

Dear Forum,

I built a second BQ77915-01 protector circuit, but I cannot charge it, only discharge.

I tried to apply hibernate-activate cycle (DFET nicely switches CFET always OFF) and to loading the pack as well. Note, CFET is turned ON until load is present (regardless of PRES input state), therefore

CHG control signal path also OK.

I have checked:

- 5 cell config setting OK (CCFG = floating)

- cell voltages are 4,15V, I measured VC levels directly on the IC pins (no soldering issue), no OV event (>4,25V), (VCx-VCx_1)=4,15V>Vow

- LD circurty is OK (at PRES=L condition adding load-> LD pin voltage can rise to  ca 12V (H) level since in this case FETs are OFF)

- CTRC input tied to GND properly, soldering OK

- NTC actual vale = 9,1K, NTC pullup resistor 10K, TS pin: short pulses form NTC middle point, soldering OK

- Voltage between SRP - SRN pins = ca. 0mV (no current flown)

- OCDP =100KOhm

- CBI=GND

- CFET is OK-> I inserted external 12V to the Gate (using lower 3 cell voltage) ->turned ON

Therefore: It seems no OW, OTC, OTD, OV, UV, OCD nor OCC events.

Can somebody give advise what shopuld I check?

Thanks in advance!

Joseph

  • Hi Joseph,

When the device is first powered on, it assumes an OV fault to start (see the first paragraph in datasheet section 9.3.2). The cell voltages need to be below (OV threshold – OV hysteresis). For this version of the device, the voltages would need to be 4.25V - 0.2V. So 4.15V is too high to reset the OV condition.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

thank you very much for the answer! It was the problem! I connected my 77915 board to fully charged cells (used for other experiment -remained in this

state). I dicharged the pack to 20.0V now I can charge, CFET is ON.

    Best regards,

    Joseph
