BQ77915: BURNOUT ISSUE

Part Number: BQ77915

Hi, we have tested a 10S BQ7791501 board which was working properly and set aside with 10S Battery connected, without connecting Charger or Load.

After 4-5 days we found part of board Burnout near Battery connector.

We are using Rini=47E(1206 package) & Cin=0.1uF(0603 package).

Any possible reasons for burnout??

Cell balancing was enabled but charger was not connected.

Recorded all individual cell voltages after burnout, which is around 3.77V(+-20mV) but one cell has 3.68V(may be due to Short Circuit while burnout).

  • Hi Pankaj,

It looks like the board is pretty badly burned. It is unfortunately not easy to determined what caused this issue. The BQ77915 monitors the cell voltages, current, and temperature and can be used to control FETs to protect the system. If there was no charger or load connected, it seems like something else must have been shorted on the board to cause this type of damage.

    Best regards,

    Matt
