My BQ34Z100 is fielded in an application that may never achieve a successful learning cycle in field use. The learning cycle will be interrupted by constant use (no rest periods between charge/discharge), lack of complete charging or charger profile does not match BQ34 data flash.

Under these circumstances is it better to not enable IT Track? I am concerned that IT Track enabled may lead to improper learning if the learning cycle is erratic.

Hello Steve,

The initial learning cycle only needs to be done once at the beginning to characterize the battery, then you would upload that to the rest of your gauges.

You still may run into issues with getting a Qmax update if you do not have rest periods between charge and discharge. Usually we would recommend a CEDV gauge for applications like this because it only needs a full discharge every few months of use.

If you disable impedance track the gauge will not report and gauge information like SOC or RemCap. IT has to be enabled for the learning cycle.

Hi Wyatt,

Are you saying that if impedance track is disabled the gauge will not report SOC at all? Or just that it will not adjust SOC as the cell ages?

Hello Steve,

If IT is disabled, all gauging registers are not reliable, I would not use any gauging registers unless IT is enabled. You should still be able to read data from the registers but it will not correlate with the battery state.
