LM3489: asking for the 20V drop spec

Hi Team,

customer uses LM3489 for the type C design. Customer would like to know if the 20V voltage drop to 19V. Can this pass USB-IF spec?

Hello,

The dropout voltage of the LM3489 is shown in figure 8-11 of the datasheet.

The maximum drop at full load (4A) is <700mV typical.

Hi SHH,

LM3489 can run in 100% duty cycle for USBPD applications.

Just be sure the PFET RDS(ON) and Inductor DCR resistances are small to minimize voltage drops on these components.

For example please see TPS65981EVM USB-C EVM that uses LM3489 for up to 20V/3A USB PD output. The LM3489 design is on page 22.
