TPS61322: Inductor selection

Hi team,

My customer is considering to use the TPS61322. I have a question about the inductor selection.

The d/s states that "The saturation current of the inductor must be higher than the calculated peak inductor current". Doesn't customer need to care the current limit value for the inductor? I know that this converter doesn't have a short circuit protection. So the customer should not worry about the current limit and only care for the peak current of the conditions used?

Hi Yamaguchi:

The current of the inductance is limited by the converter. If the converter operate well, there is no need to worry the short current. (I mean if the IC is still healthy)

Please let me ask one more question. Should the saturation current of the inductor be higher than the calculated peak inductor current or higher current limit?

Yes， the saturation current mush be higher than the calculated peak current. And better to leave 20-50% margin.
