MIL-STD-461 CS106

Part Number: LM317

The LM317EMP has an ESD voltage rating of 3000V. The MIL-STD-461 CS106 test is approximately a 400V sinx/x for 5usec. The human body model decays quickly in under 500nsec. The CS106 at 5usec has >10x Joules the Human Body model. Do I need to include some sort of suppression device or will the LM317EMP withstand the test?

  • Hi Mark,

I'm unsure if you saw my previous response to your other request.  I've designed to CS106 and I would not rely on the HBM test data to protect you on CS106.  The CS106 requirement is above the datasheet values in terms of joules, as you have stated.  So you would be operating outside of the datasheet if you used this in a CS106 application without a suppression device.  There is no test data available on our end which validates this component against the CS106 transient requirement, so you would have to perform that testing on your own.

    Thanks,
