LM5122: LM5122 design consideration

Part Number: LM5122

Hi ,

For LM5122, there is two question from customer.

1.if I have External Vcc supply, meanthat I not use Vin for start up or supply voltage to VCC regulator.  Then in this case can I not use this Vin pin by direct connect Vin to Vcc or not. Or This Vin pin still need to connect to input capacitor for IC functional?

 2. My application Vinput max is 60V, But in datasheet specify Maximum input Voltage: 65V. Only 5V margin is it still OK or not in case of any Vin transient.

  • I Aaron,

Thanks for reaching out with you question and for considering the LM5122 in your design.

    1. In the condition where the IC is going to be supplied with an external voltage and the VIN pin is not connected to the input voltage rail of the power circuit, it is fine to connect VCC and VIN together. Please do not exceed the absolute maximum voltage rating of the VCC pin.

    2. This is a question the customer needs to decide on, if 5V margin is enough for the application. From the IC standpoint if the absolute maximum voltage rating is exceed the device could be damaged. If the true maximum of the input voltage is 60V for the application then there should be no problem operating at 60V.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
