TPS709-Q1: Exact replacement for AP7370-50W5-7

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Our customer's PCB design have already been done and mass-produced, but they are having shortage of AP7370-50W5-7 and is looking to TPS70950QDBVRQ1 as an exact replacement in footprint, pinouts and functionality. Their minimum functional requirements are the following:

* Output voltage = Fixed - 5.0 V

* Output voltage tolerance: 3% or better

* Input voltage max > 17 V

* Output current max >= 150 mA

Would TPS70950QDBVRQ1 be a good fit? They are open for any suggestions. Below is the link to the device datasheet.

Does the customer need the internal reverse current protection here? Can you also comment if a Q1 grade device is needed? I don't see anything in the AP7370 datasheet that mentions it's automotive qualified, so curious if this is a requirement.

TPS70950DBVR is a good candidate that can be considered a p2p option as long as pin3 is floating in the customer's PCB layout (pin3 is EN pin on TPS709 but it can be left floating to enable the device). Another candidate to consider would be the TPS7A2450DBVR, however for this device EN (pin3) would need to be tied to VIN (pin1).

Hi Blake,

As per the customer, Reverse current protection is not required. Automotive grade is optional but is desirable because it means the chips are tougher ( www.allaboutcircuits.com/.../ )

Their design leaves pin3 floating as you surmised, so they will definitely need a regulator that does not require pin3 to be pulled high to be enabled, to seems like TPS7A2450DBVR is out of the question.

They will proceed with TPS70950DBVR, unless there are other parts that you know of that don't required the EN pin to get pulled high.

Today we don't have anything else that meets the socket requirements, is p2p in the SOT-23-5 package, and either does not have an EN or is an option where EN can be left floating.

The closest other option we have today would be the TPS7B69 (also available in Q1 with TPS7B69-Q1), however pins 3 and 4 for this device are GND so they would need to be connected to the GND plane of the board to ensure proper operation of the device (cannot be left floating).
