UCC27712-Q1: how to use UCC27712-Q1 to act as a high side gate driver?

Part Number: UCC27712-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6501

Dear team,

My customer needs a high side gate driver, but we only have half bridge and low side driver. I want to know whether we can use the half bridge driver to act as a high side driver. If it is feasible, how to deal with the LI pin and LO pin? How the does the Bootstrap cap discharge?

Thanks & Best Regards,

Sherry

  • Hello Sherry,

Thank you for supporting the UCC27712-Q1. The UCC27712-Q1 can be used as a high side driver only, by connecting the LI pin to ground and leaving the LO pin unconnected.

For the HB capacitor, for a conventional bootstrap diode bias, there is still the need for the HS pin on the driver to transition to ground for there to be a charging path from VDD through the boot diode charging the boot capacitor. Depending on the power train and operating conditions, there may be switching of the HS pin to ground which allows use of the bootstrap bias.

If there is not always HS switching to ground, or very long on times of the HO output. it may be necessary to have a dedicated floating high side bias. The SN6501 or SN6505 is a small, simple TI solution for this floating   bias if required.

Confirm if this addresses your question, or you can post additional questions on this thread.
