LP5524: Could I use 2pcs LP5524 with 8 channel parallel connected for driving 200mA to one LED?

Part Number: LP5524
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP5024, TLC59116, TLC59108

Dear TI Experts,

For more than 100mA LED current requirement: Could I use LP5524 with below combinations?

Could I use 2pcs LP5524 with 8 channel ( 4ch + 4ch) parallel connected for driving 200mA to one LED?

Could I use 2pcs LP5524 with 6 channel ( 4ch + 2ch) parallel connected for driving 150mA to one LED?

My application is 1~2ms on with 30~60Hz duration,
8pcs LED, 80~150mA LED Current each.

Or Please let me know if you have better driver for my application.

Thanks,
Hugo

  • Hi Hugo,

Here maybe some different between two LP5024 and current error between device to device is existing. so if you want to use channel by parallel, you'd better using channels on the one device parallel connected.

TLC59116 is more suitable for your application. it is a 16 channel FM+I2C-bus constant-current LED driver. the maximum current per channel is up to 120mA and it has flexible dimming method.

  • Hi Monet,

From TLC59116 ( or TLC59108), it's adjustable frequency is between 24Hz to once every 10.73 seconds.

However, we need the frequency to be 60Hz or 30Hz....etc.

Is there any method to let TLC59116 or other linear part operates at 60Hz, 30Hz...?

    Thanks,
    Hugo

  • Hi Hugo,

the frequency of LED can also be operated by I2C control.

For example, set group control = dimming, write pwm0 individual duty cycle to register PWM0, after 1ms write 0 to register to PWM0 and after 15.6ms write pwm0 individual duty cycle to register PWM0 and repeat. it can blink the LED at 60HZ with 1ms on.
