TPS746: TPS746 – Co-Layout Question

Part Number: TPS746
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP5912, TLV767

For the special used, we want to co-layout TPS746, TLV767 and LP5912. Since the pin definition is different, we want to consult with you about the TPS746.

  • May I connect the PG(Pin5) pin to GND(Pin3)?
  • May I connect the NC(Pin2) pin to OUT(Pin1)?
  • May I leave the GND(Pin3) open? But we will keep the Thermal-Pad in ground loop.

Thanks.

BR, Gary

  • Hi Gary,

    1. Yes you can connect the power good pin to ground if you do not plan on using it.

    2. Yes you can connect the NC pin to out.  The NC pins according to the datasheets are not internally connected.

    3. I would not recommend disconnecting the ground pin and using the thermal pad as ground.  Thermal pads are designed to dissipate heat and may not be well connected to GND internally to the device.  While we advise customers to tie the thermal pad to GND, this is because the GND plane is the largest copper plane in most designs.

    Thanks,
