Hi Expert,

The customer is using bq28z610 on the battery project.

The previous battery rating voltage they using is 4.35V. while the battery is EOL, so they plan to use new batteries. The rating voltage of the new battery they selected is 4.4V. During the new battery evaluation, the customer use the same chemical ID as before. when the battery goes to a pretty low level, like 3% or 5%, it will go to 0% directly. This phenomenon can be found in room temp and high temp condition.

The customer would like to know why it will drop from 3% or 5% directly to 0%. Is it caused by the different battery that the customer using?

Hello Lenna,

If the battery has changed from the previous version, a new chemistry ID needs to be found using the GPCCHEM tool and a new learning cycle finished. The same chemistry ID may not be suitable for both your batteries.

Hi Wyatt,

I might not describe the question correctly. After double checked, the customer created the new ID for the new battery(4.4V), but they used 4.35V to configure gauge parameters and found it will drop from 3% or 5% to 0% directly. Will the customer's operation cause such issue?

So customer did not use the same chemical ID as before? If the chemID is incorrect there can be many issues, yes.

Hi Nick,

The customer create new ID for the new battery(with 4.4V voltage). But when they configurate the bq28z610 parameters, they use the previous 4.35V related settings instead of design according to 4.4V, the real battery rating voltage. Under this configuration, the customer found the issue. So my question is will this configuration cause the incorrect phenomenon that the customer see?

Hello Lenna,

The gauge performs simulations based on the termination voltage, so if they charge to 4.35V and discharge down the gauge should still predict accurately. Have the configured the FC bit to be set at 4.35V? The gauge will need to know when it's at full charge.

Can you share the data logs and .gg file from the tests?
