TPS23734EVM-094: Power is maintained even if EMPS is set to L and no load.

Part Number: TPS23734EVM-094

Dear Specialists,

My customer is evaluating TPS23734EVM and has a question.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

As shown below, the output is in a no-load state with EMPS set to Low, but the VOUT output continues to be output.

Pin header J13 Short state: EMPS Low

Pin header J15 PGND Short state: APD Low

Vout load: open (no load )

When the EMPS function is turned off with no load,

I expected that the power supply from PoE PSE would stop,

It does not work like that.

Could you please let us know why.

Is it a PSE issue?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hello Shinichi,

The PSE will continue to supply power if the Maintain Power Signature (MPS) signal is met. This is a 10mA current draw. So if the design draws 10mA of current, even during no load, the PSE will still send power.

If this post answers your question, please indicate so by marking this thread as resolved. Thank you.

  • Hi Michael,

    Thank you for your reply.

I'll share this information with the customer.

Also I ask the customer to check the input current of the EVM.

I appreciate your great help and cooperation.

    Best regars,

    Shinichi
