LP3875: Coupling capacitor

Part Number: LP3875

I want 5V and 3.3V supply in my design. i am using lm7805 for generating 5V from 24V and lp3875 for the generation of 3.3V from 5V. lp3875 requires input capacitance of 10uF and lm7805 requires a output capacitance of 0.1uF. So shall I install 2 capacitors of given value? or shall I install a single capacitor of some recommended value?

  • Hi Raj,

For LM7805, it's recommended to have at least 0.1uF, and this capacitor needs to be as close to the output pin as possible. It does not hurt to add an additional cap, so I would recommend having another 10uF close to the input of the LP3875.
