TLC59116: 8-LED Array Drive

Part Number: TLC59116
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC59108

Hi Team,

Our customer intends to use the TLC59116 to drive a LED array consisting of 8 different LEDs. Each LED is a different color and therefore has a different forward voltage. If they are all connected to the same voltage source, will the constant current sink on the LED driver compensate for the difference in voltage across the LEDs so that they all receive the same current? Each LED will be turned on individually.

Thanks in advance!

Kind Regards,

Jejomar

  • Hi Jejomar,

Yes all output channels would have the same current if you set them at the same value, as long as the voltage dropped on output pin is above Figure 2 in datasheet.

BTW, if only 8 channels are used, you could also consider TLC59108 which is 8-channel version of TLC59116.
