BQ25703A: I2C description in the data sheet

Part Number: BQ25703A

Hello team,

Regarding the contents of the data sheet (REV.A) of BQ25703A, there was a content that was suspected to be incorrect, so I would like to confirm it for the customer.

(1) I2C address is different
As the I2C address of the device, there is a description of "D6h (1101101_X)" on p.31.

But the customer couldn't access it even with the binary notation "1101101_X".

As a result of the operation check, they were able to access with "110_1011_x" in binary notation.

(2) I2C Timing Requirements are incorrect

P.18, p.19
SCLK pulse width High --- min 4.7us
SCLK pulse width Low ---- min 4.7us
Clock Frequency ----- min 100KHz, max 400KHz

If the clock frequency is max 400kHz, the minimum value of SCLK pulse width (High / Low) should be 1.25us. At min100kHz, the SCLK pulse width (Hihg / Low) should be 5us.
Therefore, if the pulse width min 4.7us is correct, the maximum Clock Frequency would be 100kHz.
On the other hand, if the Clock Frequency is correct, the minimum pulse width of SCLK should be smaller than 1.25us.

It would be helpful if you could confirm which is correct, the description or the customer's point.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Ryotaro Fukui

  • Hi Ryotaro,

Thanks for choosing BQ25703A. I am sorry about the confusions in Datasheet. We will work to improve.

    1. the binary address is wrong, it should be 1101 011x, which is D6h.

    2. Timing parameters are quoted based on 100Khz operation. But the part works on 400Khz as well.

  • Hi Linhong,

Thank you for the advice. Let me confirm if my understanding is correct.

About the 2nd question, is it okay to say that even if the clock frequency is raised to 400kHz, the pulse width min 4.7us does not change?

I thought that increasing the frequency would make the pulse width smaller than at 100kHz.

  • Hi Ryotaro,

Again, sorry for the confusion. 4.7us spec is for 100Khz only, it does NOT apply to 400Khz.

BQ25703A timings are within 400Khz I2C spec, but not listed in datasheet.

    Best Regards,

    Linhong

  • Hi Linhong,

    It all clear now.

The description in the datasheet is for 100kHz operation. And for 400kHz operation, there is no description of pulse width, but there is no problem in operation.

Thank you all for your help.

    Best Regards,
    Ryotaro Fukui
