BQ34Z100-G1: Incorrect block number for Device Name

I simply followed the example in slua790, 2.4 example 2, which shows that the device name starts at the first byte of the 2cd block. Following the listed sequence of commands produce the result shown in the appnote, and my driver does as well - once of course, I redefine the block number to 1, instead of the 0 listed in both the TRM and bqStudio.

"Issue in the documentation?" this is the worst TRM I've ever seen for a TI part.

The issue is exactly what I said - while the device name IS in the 2cd block, BOTH the TRM AND bqStudio list it in the FIRST block, starting at offset 31. Clearly, BOTH are wrong and should be corrected

The documentation says the read starts in the first block and goes into the second block (exceeds 32 bytes) This is why I'm asking for the steps you're taking so I can understand better where the issue is coming from and how it's affecting your driver.

?? The documentation says that the device name starts in block 0 at offset 31, and is 12 bytes long...it doesn't. When I followed the documentation, the sequence was 0x3E = 48, 0x3F = 0 , and read from 0x40 (since that's what the documentation says, as well as studio). But since the documentation is wrong, and the device name IS NOT in block 0 at offset 31 (like the documentation says it is), I tried block #1...which worked (since that's where the device name is located, NOT where the documentation says it is).

To add to Jeff's comments, the app note (slua790) shows the line below starting at byte 0 of page 2. Therefore, it does seem like the device name starts on the second block with "62 71 33 34 7A..."="bq34z...", correct? However, the TRM states an offset of 31 which would mean that the "62" would be on page 1 rather than page 2.

Jeff is just pointing out this discrepancy with the TRM and bqStudio. Please let me know if I'm misunderstanding.

I will need to take a look at this further tomorrow, from what I see it looks like this will not be in block 2 because it's size and offset value. Can you show where bqStudio shows it in block 1?

Perhaps if you have a 34z100-G1 EVM you could connect it with  bqStudio and see. I've pasted a snipped screenshot...let me know if it doesn't appear. If so, note the block and offset for the Device Name...it's incorrect.

I believe it to be universally agreed that the TRM for the 34z100 is woefully lacking and is in desperate need a thorough rewrite. As a good reference, despite it being a CEDV gauge, the bq34z110 TRM is quite good.

Also, please review my other open issues and see if they can be resolved.
