TPS7A16-Q1: Question about minimum Cout value

Part Number: TPS7A16-Q1

Hi Experts

My customer has a question about the minimum Cout value.

Is the absolute minimum for Cout 2.2uF, ie. they should choose a part with a nominal value >2.2uF?

Or can they use a nominal 2.2 uF ceramic capacitor with normal tolerances and temperature coefficients etc. and will that be sufficient for stability?

Thanks!

Best regards,

Jim B

  • Hi Jim,

A nominal 2.2-uF ceramic capacitor will satisfy the requirement for the output capacitor. But for better AC performance, a 10-uF is recommended. For newer datasheet, we have differentiated the difference between capacitor and capacitance; when you see minimum capacitance, the capacitor needs to provide the capacitance with degrading.
