TPS40140 question with PMP2916

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS40140

I have an application question of PMP2916.

In the circuit of PMP2916, why the FB2 is connected to BP5(5V) if single device and 2 phase mode are implemented?

In the DS, the FB2 is connected to grounding in this mode.

Power Condition:

IC: TPS40140

12Vin

3.3Vout/50A

Do you have ref. design for above condition with NexFET MOSFETs?

FAE Brian

  • Brian,

Connecting the FB2 pin to GND or BP5 both disable the error amplifier.  Designs originally developed before the final release of the TPS40140 controller used this interchanibly when only using a single device (2-phase).

This configuration does not provide correct phase positioning in chip solutions, but for a single chip 2-phase solution either works.

Current Designs should follow the Datasheet recommendation of connecting FB2 to GND.

I will check to see if a new reference design is available using TI NexFETs

  • Hi Brian,

We have a new reference design which was using TI NexFETs. That is 1.2V/100A application by using two TPS40140. You can delete one TPS40140 for your 50A application. The schematic is attached.

    Thanks,

    Nancy
