TPS82130: Low Switching frequency

Part Number: TPS82130

We are using TPS82130 on one of our designs and during the initial testing, we observed that the switching frequency of the converter is lower than 2MHz (1.3MHz) at 1A load.

Here is the screenshot of the converter design

We realized that as we added more output capacitance, the switching frequency got closer to 2MHz.

Is that the normal behavior of this module?

Thanks,

If you started with 22uF X5R or X7R, there will be DC bias impact on effective capacitance. You need to check with the specific manufacturer, but I would not be surprised if it was 40% of nominal value.

You need enough capacitance to get a steady output voltage and with small level of AC voltage (capacitive), otherwise it will confuse the controller which internally is generating a ramp which phase corresponds to a resistive impedance.

The behavior noticed was probably caused by that.
