BQ27426: soft reset changes battery state of charge

Part Number: BQ27426

Hi,

I had a device which stopped chraging at 94% batt level (average current = 0, remaining capacity = 2122, full charge capacity = 2258 ).

I sent a 'soft reset' (0x0042) to the device - and battery level changed immediatly to 99% (average current = 0, remaining capacity = 2420, full charge capacity = 2445 ).

Can you please explain the fuel gauge process during the soft reset cycle, that cuased those values to change?

Which of those values sets should I consider accurate?

Thanks,

Yaron

  • Hello Yaron,

The TRM explains the process in section: 5.1.17 SOFT_RESET: 0x0042

The gauge will recalculate the FCC and remcap based on the OCV value. If the chemistry ID is a very close match to your battery and the voltage is relaxed when you send the command it will correlate well.

This is a ROM gauge so you won't have as many options to update the chem ID if it's not the best match.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
