BQ40Z80: Cell Balancing based on SOC

Part Number: BQ40Z80
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930, BQ34110, BQ34Z100-G1

Hello

Is there any device or daisy chained devices with which we can do the cell balancing based on State of Charge and Impedance for each cell in a 16 series battery pack?

I understand that with bq40Z80 we can achieve it upto 6 cells. Is there a possibility that I can daisy chain them for 16 cells?

  • Hi Anjan,

BQ40z80 is up to 6S currently. They aren't architected for daisy-chaining. You should consider two bq76930 battery monitors, they have integrated cell balancing and can monitor each cell, but will not be able to provide a SoC.

If you absolutely need SoC (state of charge)&SOH (state of health) information, then please consider BQ34z100-G1 or BQ34110. These fuel gauges uses a resistor divider method, but do not track each cell individually.

    Thanks,
