LM25069: 0402 passive components package?

Part Number: LM25069
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25982

Hi team

TI P/N: LM25069PMMX-2

Input voltage: 5V or 12V

Load current: 5A, 10A, 15A

My customer wants to know whether they could use 0402 package resistors and capacitors for the external passive components?  Especially for the passive components connected to the TIMER pin and PWR pin.

Thank you.

  • Hi Shawn Wang,

I don't think there is any issue in using 0402 components for passive components connected to the TIMER pin and PWR pin of LM25069.

    • The Electrical Characteristics table in the datasheet shows the leakage current into each of these pins. The leakage current is in the order of few uA's. You can verify if the power dissipation in the components is less than the power rating of the 0402 component (usually 1/16 W).

For load currents less than 15A, I would recommend using an integrated FET  TPS25982 eFuse to save of size, cost and additional protection features compared to LM25069 based solution.

  • Hi Praveen

Thanks for your confirmation. We have recommended  TPS25982 to my customer and are waiting for the feedback.

In addition, expected for the passive components connected to TIMER pin and PWR pin, do you see any issue for other passive components?  Thank you.

  • Hi Shawn Wang,

The other components required for LM25069 are resistor dividers for UVLO/EN and OVLO. The current flowing through these resistor depends on the values used, [I = Vin/ (sum of resistance values in resistor divider] as the current drawn from these pins into the IC is almost negligible.
