BQ25883: TS pin usage

Part Number: BQ25883

Hi Team,

It is possible to connect a thermistor with a built-in battery to the TS terminal in datasheet,

but is the temperature monitored by this terminal used only for "charging operation"?

* Does BQ25883 control using the temperature detected by TS during "battery discharge operation"?

For example, is there any control to stop the battery discharge operation outside the

usable temperature range (low temperature or high temperature)?

Thanks

Best regards,

Shidara

  • Hi Shidara,

The TS pin can only control current going into the battery (forward charging mode) or out of the battery (reverse discharging during OTG mode) by stopping the converter from switching.  If the charger is in battery only mode (HiZ mode) but OTG mode is not enabled, the charger cannot stop battery current discharging from BAT to SYS pin.

You can, however, use the host I2C engine can read the ADC TS pin, convert that to a temperature and then, for example, use host GPIO to turn off an external series PFET between SYS pin and the load.

    Regards,

    Jeff
