LM317: ABS of Vi/Vo

Hello Experts,

I would like to know whether this device has limitation between Vi/Vo to GND. The datasheet is only specified the ABS of Vin - Vo. I would like to use a following condition. Is it possible to use LM317 for this condition?
[condition]
- Vi: 42V (respect to GND)
- Vo: 37V respect to GND)

Hi Fujiwara-san,

This LDO is a floating ground LDO, which means it has an ADJUSTABLE pin instead of a ground pin. The output, however, has a recommended 37V to ground as the maximum. The input needs to be smaller than the Vin - V limit.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for answer. My understanding is that customer condition (Vi=42V and Vo=37V) is in spec of your comments, so customer can use LM317 for this condition, correct?

Yes, you are right. The output can be set to 37V.
