BQ28Z610: bq28Z610 Pack enable

Part Number: BQ28Z610

Hi,

We did some modification to the bq28Z610EVM and tried to handle slightly differently the way we manage Pack enable pin.

In bq28Z610 EVM a button shorts through R1 VBAT with PACK+:

In our design we swap the switch S1 with resistor R1 and D1 goes to the switch directly:

Because it is said in the data sheet that PACK pin supplies bq28Z610 we assumed their is no point to short Pack+ with VBAT and that bq28Z610 will do it through DSG MOSFET once initialized.

Hence we expect that we could avoid to populate R1. Do you have a pick on that?

  • Hi JC,

The S1 button is used to wake up the device from shutdown, it not needed as you can also connect an charger to the PACK pin for the same purpose.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Nick,

our device is portable and it does require to be woken up by the user so we still need a switch to operate.

However, while writing this I understood that Pack+ need to be connected to Pack pin to wake up from the charger source as well.

So R1 has to be populated otherwise we will never be able to wake up from the charger only from the switch & at the condition that the battery if it is not depleted.

    Best regards,

    JC
