LP5036: Driver output with current (or voltage) pulses (PWM like)

Hi all,

I'm researching RGB LED low power drivers to a product. I recently found the family of the LP5xxx, and took a look in some options such as LP503x, LP5012, LP5569... they are really amazing.

However, I'd like to drive the LEDs with pulses instead of constant current (some research and experimentation I did show that, for the same average current, if you drive an LED with high pulses and low duty cycle, they seem brighter to human eyes).

So, it's desired for us to use a drive which has digital outputs (PWM like), and not constant current. Can we achieve this behavior with LP503x, or any other driver from TI?  The output also could be voltage, and we can externally drive the LEDs with transistors if needed.

    Refer to your present request, the family of LP50XX is a good choice. They are 12 bit PWM ultra-low quiescent current I2C RGB LED drivers. The maximum constant-current value of all channels is set by a single external resistor, RIREF and the Max_Current_Option(bit) define the Imax to be 25.5mA or 35mA, which can achieve high current. Each channel have the integrated 12 bit 29khz PWM generator which can achieve low duty cycle.

    I'm testing the family LP50xx, seems really interesting but we'd like to apply pulses of current in the order of 100mA~200mA.

    Would you have other options that can provide these higher pulses?

    • what about the input/output voltage
    • how much channels do you need?
    • the range of output current
    • ...
