HI TI expert,
I am selecting some power devices, but noticed TI DC/DC converter has many control modes as below. I am not familar with the difference of the modes.
My requirement is small size, high efficiency, can you share you comment which control mode device is preferred for recommendation?
Thanks
Control mode:
ACM/AECM
COT with emulated ripple
Constant on-time (COT)
Current Mode
D-CAP
D-CAP+
D-CAP2
D-CAP3
DCS-Control
Voltage Mode
Hello Allen,
Much will depend on your power supply requirements: VIN, VOUT, IOUT. I suggest you start with WEBENCH http://www.ti.com/design-resources/design-tools-simulation/webench-power-designer.html to generate designs that will meet your requirements. Once you have designated the various parameters, WEBENCH will produce a variety of designs that can then be filtered and sorted based on what is most important for your design requirements.
In addition, with WEBENCH, you can specify the various Control Modes you stated, then compare the supplies generated for the requirements you specified:
Once you have selected a design, if you have any further questions, please post a new inquiry here on E2E.
Also, here is an AppNote that discusses at least two of the modes you mentioned: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slyt732a/slyt732a.pdf .
At your service,
~Leonard
