TPS7B7701-Q1: Inquiry about Power Dissipation(Pd) value

Part Number: TPS7B7701-Q1

Hi,

I have an inquiry regarding the Pd value of TPS7B7701-Q1(LDO).

The Pd value is not indicated in the Datasheet on the TI site.

If there is a Pd value of the part, please reply,
If not, please check whether the Pd value obtained using the formula below is correct.

Power = (TJ – TA) / RθJA

 Pd (Max) = (TJ(Max) – TA(Min) / RθJA

TJ(Max) = 150 °C

TA(Min) = -40 °C

RθJA = 45.9 °C/W

 Pd = (150 – (-40) / 45.9

   = 4.14 W

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hi MJ,

    We normally don't specify the maximum operating power but your calculation is correct and with the -40 ambient and 150 maximum junction temperature, the maximum power dissipation is 4.14W. In a real application, the thermal performance can be improved by having ground copper on the top/bot layers of the board where the LDO is being mounted and then Rja number could be reduced and the maximum power will also be increased.
