TPS65218D0: Datasheet of PMIC

Part Number: TPS65218D0
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM4376, TPS65218

Hi ,

We are using TPS65218D0 as the Power management chip for AM4376 process. and the LS2 of TPS65218D0 is supplied to LCD and Audio. We are worry if the LS2 has enough capacity to supply these two devices. the LCD needs 210mA, and the audio system needs 400mA. So, my question is what is the current limitation, 500mA or 1000mA? because I find there is something difference in datasheet of TPS65218.

below captured is the first page of datasheet, it shows the max current is 500mA.

and below captured shows that the current limitation can be selected as 1000mA.

Thanks,

Johnny

  • The maximum output current for LS2 is shown on page 8 of the TPS65218D0 datasheet:

    "Output current for LS2  = 920mA (MAX)"

The 1st page is just showing Features of the device. For marketing purposes, it is listed as a 100-mA or 500-mA 5V load switch (for powering USB devices).

The guaranteed minimum is what you are showing from page 16 of the datasheet lists the guaranteed minimum/maximum short circuit current limit values for each setting. The highest of all is a minimum of 922 mA and a maximum of 1290mA, meaning the load switch might detect a short circuit anywhere in this range.

To set the current limit, you need to set the LS2ILIM[1..0] field in the register map to 11b. This field is bits 1..0 in the CONFIG2 register (address 0x14), and is detailed on page 64 of the datasheet. The default value is 00b, resulting in a current limit of 94 mA (guaranteed minimum).
