BQ25606: battery charging with load

hi,

We are currently using bq25606 power management IC In our design which has a load requirement >2A.

for battery monitoring we are using max17260. We are facing few issues with the system and have below queries to be cleared.

Observation:battery charging takes time when system is ON(load of 2A connected to vsys)

1.Is management IC capable of performing charging functionality parallel with load connected?

2. should we keep the system off(load disconnected) during battery charging?

Hi,

1. Yes.

2. Higher SYS load and charging current together may trigger Dynamic Power Management.

Please note that when the input current limit or input voltage limit is reached, the device then reduces the charge current until the input current falls below the input current limit and the input voltage rises above the input voltage limit. As the system load continues to increase, the power path discharges the battery until the system power requirement is met. This Supplement Mode prevents overloading the input source.
